🍫 Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Bars: A Delicious High-Protein Dessert 🥜

Only make these if you have company coming over because these chocolate peanut butter protein bars are so good you will eat them all if you don’t share them. These taste better than Reese’s peanut butter cups, and each bar has over 14 grams of protein!

To save time during cleanup, use a 2-cup measuring cup to measure the peanut butter, then add the maple syrup in the same measuring cup. Proceed to mix them together, and once thoroughly mixed, dump the protein powder in and mix it until all of the ingredients are well incorporated and have the consistency of cookie dough.

When you form the peanut butter nougat layer in the pan, it can be tricky to get it evenly distributed because it’s so thick. One trick is to use another piece of parchment paper on top of the nougat and use your hands to level it out.

When heating up the chocolate chips and the coconut oil make sure to only microwave them for 20 seconds at a time, then stir to help melt faster and repeat as needed. You want your chocolate mixture melted but not too runny. Once the chocolate chips and the coconut oil are melted, pour the melted chocolate mixture directly on top of the nougat layer. If it is runny, you can spread the chocolate mixture by tilting the pan from side to side alternating directions. If your chocolate mixture is thicker, you can use a rubber spatula to spread it out.

Once the chocolate on the chocolate peanut butter protein bars has solidified, you can take them out of the pan and cut them into bars directly on the parchment paper. Then they can be stored (still on the parchment paper) in a sealed container in the fridge for up to one week.

I originally discovered this recipe online, and I’ve adapted it to make it my own. You can make it your own by experimenting with milk chocolate chips instead of dark chocolate chips, but I recommend dark chocolate as it has less sugar and more cocoa.  Or you could try replacing the maple syrup with honey or even add some vanilla extract. This is one of the best things about cooking, you can customize a dish to suit your taste preferences.

This is a video of me making some protein-packed chocolate peanut butter cups. These use the same ingredients as this recipe but are in cups verses a bar.
